2nd Annual Leon Walker Memorial Golf Classic

On Friday, September 16, 2022 the Kappa Foundation of Prince George’s County welcomed 112 golfers with a total attendance well over 150 guests present for the 2nd Annual Leon Walker Memorial Golf Classic. The day was filled with incredibly blessed weather, a tremendous sense of community pride and philanthropic spirit. Oak Creek Golf Club a luxurious private gated Golf Community originally developed as one of eight courses throughout the country by Toll Brothers located in Upper Marlboro, MD was the hosting site with its well groomed 18-hole layout. Our first group of golfers teed-off at 8:30AM sharp and returned from the field around 2PM to partake in the awards ceremony. The connecting Grove Restaurant serviced our guests with impeccable attention through their professionalism, culinary delights and assortment of beverage offerings.

Major contributing partners such as Nissan of Bowie supported as the food and beverage sponsor; PepsiCo provided a vast assortment of sports-drinks, carbonated beverage and water for all along with Gatorade ensigned chillers at every other hole throughout the course. Nandos Peri Peri provided not only free entrée coupons for the guest swag bags but also complimentary raffle items consisting of a few family dinner sets. Carrabba’s Italian Grill continued in their support efforts with free appetizers and a beautiful picnic set all tucked away in a stylish backpack containing a Bluetooth speaker, two bottles of fine wine, an electric bottle opener, aluminum wine chillers, a blanket, coffee mugs and additional $100 dollar gift certificate. The Washington Nationals donated an autographed baseball by pitcher Josiah Gray while Starbucks provided morning coffee and pastries for all of our guests. Jersey Mike’s graciously included free sandwich coupons included in the complimentary swag bags; with Sky Zone Trampoline Park donating several family gaming packages and child entry passes. Sauza Tequila threw in a bottle of tequila for each registered golfer while Golf Galaxy sent over discounted coupons for future purchases. These supporters and many, many more made it all possible.

Our field of golfers included dignitaries such as Eastern Province Polemarch, Charles E. Exum Jr.; Hyattsville/Landover (MD) Alumni 20th Chapter Polemarch, Brother Carroll James Harris; Maryland State Senator, Brother Ronald L. Watson, Ph.D. and a guest speaker appearance from Brother Brandon Jackson, Candidate for Board of Education/District 6 of Prince George’s County. Supporting vendors like Branded 1911, owned collectively by our good Kappa Brothers, Carl Vincent, Dr. Daniel G. Kean and William A. Kean Jr. provided a plethora of attractive golf paraphilia. The beautiful family of our beloved and memorialized Brother Leon Walker supported the event in great number with their continued support and praise for honoring Brother Walker in this continued manner.

Special Acknowledgement to the coordinating body, Chairman, Virgil Moore III; Co-Chairs, Troy Stewart, David Torrence and Jason Zeigler, as well as, the entire LWMGC Committee for their unwavering support and due diligence, ensuring a flawless execution. The Kappa Foundation of Prince George’s County was well supported by the Brothers of the Hyattsville/Landover (MD) Alumni Chapter who showed up in force making sure all of the guests were given the utmost respect and attention all throughout the day and evening.
